This has apparently been a big story in the media lately. The guy has his MacBook stolen but has software installed that takes photos of the thief as he’s using the computer. More details here:
While this story has a happy outcome in that the thief was caught and the computer recovered, a better solution would have been to use Full Disk Encryption (FDE) and a strong password on the computer. With FDE the thief would have never had access to anything except a useless piece of hardware. While FDE may not get your computer back (hardware is cheap and insurable anyway), you will never have to worry about your data and accounts being raided while the police try to find the guy.
